Dr. Darshan Patel is a clinical psychiatrist who likes to take a methodical approach in understanding complex situations bringing patients to his attention. Dr. Patel completed his training in Adult Psychiatry and a Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Illinois-Chicago. He trained as a research fellow during his psychiatry residency and child and adolescent fellowship. Dr. Patel is board-certified in Adult Psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and board-eligible in Child/Adolescent Psychiatry. In addition to clinical work, Dr. Patel enjoys teaching a complement of clinicians, including medical students and fellows training to become child and adolescent psychiatrists.

Dr. Patel is one of the nation’s few integrative and functional psychiatrists. His treatment plan looks beyond the presentation of mental illness by assessing genetic, biological, environmental and infectious causes. He uses a combination of complex laboratory tests, neuroimaging, and physical exams to craft a state-of-the-art treatment plan. Dr. Patel often utilizes natural supplementation via infusions and coordinates care with outside providers including; physical therapists, occupational therapists, endocrinologists, and sleep specialists. 

He enjoys working with individuals ages 4-64 and strongly encourages the patient to include their family in their treatment plan. Dr. Patel believes having support at home increases treatment outcomes. Dr. Patel specializes in working with children and their families to create a plan without the use of strong psychotropic medications, if possible. His demeanor is calming and he brings structure and peace to even the most stressful situations with patients and his staff. 

In his free time, Dr. Patel spends time with his family, including his two small children. Dr. Patel’s community of extended family is his “village”, a value that is very important to him personally and professionally. Dr. Patel is an avid tennis player and runner. He models healthy habits by eating a clean diet and staying active.
